So it's not bad for 80 bucks. It also has surround sound for cars which makes it sound simply amazing. I'm almost tempted to get some new speakers because you start to notice the distortion as you crank it up. I'll have to save that for another time. I'm getting a little sick of all these projects. BTW, the whole reason for the new stereo was that my old one had died and nothing is worse than driving without music. It's actually quite awkward because of the silence.

A New Car Stereo
I've been a little behind on posts so I also wanted to throw up a photo of my new car stereo. It's a JVC and I got it from Crutchfield for $30 (after discounts and rebates) plus $50 for an iPod adapter. It has HD Radio which is very awesome. I now have some new favorite stations because HD Radio allows radio stations to broadcast more stations in a digital format. And it's free unlike satellite radio. I got all the adapters and trim kit from Crutchfield for free and installed it myself using their pretty thorough installation guides for my truck.

A Little Kitchen TLC, part II
Once I removed the old lights I realized that the previous owners had not painted or textured the ceiling behind the track. I was hoping that the new
Home Depot was able to match the ceiling paint perfectly and I managed to get the texturing to look pretty good. You can buy different kinds in a spray can and it works pretty well. You wouldn't notice the differences unless I pointed them out.
Anyway the new lights look awesome and the kitchen is much brighter.
A Little Kitchen TLC
So there are two things that have been really bugging me about my kitchen.
One was the faucet which corroded a few month after I moved in and would not let you move it side to side. It was stuck in one position and I could not make it budge. I finally fixed that over Memorial Day weekend. By that time the drain under the sink had developed a leak and I was using a bucket to catch the water. So I learned a lot about plumbing that weekend but got it fixed.
The finished job.

Apple IPhone

It's been a while since I've posted. I've been busy with school (which is going well) and work.
On July 11th, Apple introduced the 3G IPhone. They also released a software update for owners of the original IPhone such as myself. This update gives most of the capabilities of the 3G IPhone. By far the coolest thing the is the new App Store which allows you to download applicatons to your IPhone. It's about as addicitve as crack. Me and every IPhone user I know can't put our IPhones down. There are a ton of free applications including games, restaurant finders, social networking (Facebook, MySpace) and a virtual light saber (PhoneSaber in case you want to download it).
Shazam will listen to a song for about 15 seconds and tell you the artist, album and song name. How cool is that? Another favorite is UrbanSpoon which looks like a slot machine. It uses the IPhone's location capability to suggest nearby restaurants. Just shake the IPhone and the dials start spinning choosing location (what part of town), type of food, and price range. You can lock any of the dials such as food type to pizza to only find pizzerias. If you don't like the suggestion just shake again. It provides ratings and critic reviews from local newspapers and other information to help make a decision.

My First Non-Traditional Wedding
Last weekend, Saturday February 23rd to be exact, I attended the wedding of my long-time friend, Natalie. It was excellent and you couldn't have asked for a better day to have an outdoor wedding. It was raining in Orlando when I left, but as I drove to Boynton Beach (2.5 hrs. South) the weather cleared up.
There was one difference about this wedding though. Instead of a groom and bride there were two brides. Of course this led to many questions such as would they both be wearing dresses, etc... The answer is yes, in case you were wondering. Florida has not legalized same-sex marriage so this was just a ceremony and although I may not be kosher with the whole deal, this was a very important day for Natalie and I wouldn't miss it. You can also see the photos directly in the Picasa Web Album.

On your mark. Get set, Go!
The race for the MBA has begun.
Orientation was on February 8th in Gainesville, FL at 7:30 am. For those of you who are not familiar with Central Florida, Gainesville is roughly 2 hrs from Orlando. So this marks the beginning of a commute that I'm sure I will dread. Once there, we have class until 6 pm. At least the normal start time from now on will be 8:30 am on Saturdays, but 7:30 am on Sundays. However, I don't have the commute until after class on Sundays trying to get home for work the next day.
As you can see, there was a considerable need for refreshments after the first day. For those of you wondering, NO, Captain Morgan is not in our MBA class. ;) I believe we have 59 students in our cohort.
The second day was an outdoor team building day. One of the activities we had to do was to climb up a pole and walk across a wire only holding on to ropes dangling from another wire above our heads. To give you an idea of how high up we were, I have posted a picture of someone else doing it. In case you didn't know, I'm not a fan of heights.
I did make it across, although not without at least once when I thought I was going to fall off. As you can see we are wearing safety harnesses, but doesn't seem to calm the fear of falling. It was a lot of fun though and I would do it again. I'm glad I was able to overcome my fear of heights to make it to the other side.
As for the MBA program, I'm excited to be doing it and had an awesome weekend getting to know my fellow classmates. It's going to be hard work but the rewards are well worth it. I'm definitely enjoying the contrast from engineering.
Surprisingly, approximately 75% of the class is engineers, so in some respects I'm in familiar territory.
As much as I can't stand school, I'm bored if I'm not being challenged and this will definitely be a new and refreshing challenge.

Google 411 saves the day!
So today I was running some errands and happened to be in the vicinity of a scuba shop that I had been wanting to visit. I had been there before and thought I knew where it was. After driving around trying to find it without any success, I decided to try a new service I had learned about a few weeks ago. Google 411 is a free 411 service now being offered by Google. You just call 1-800-GOOG-411 and follow the voice prompts to find a business. It will even call and connect you to the business for free. They found the dive shop (Castaway Scuba) and connected me, which was nice because I didn't want to have to remember a random phone number and try and dial it while driving. You can also call and ask for categories like "pizza delivery" and it will find pizza places in the location you are looking for. There are advanced features too like sending your phone a text message with the results or even a Google map of the business location, which is handy if you have an iPhone or a similar phone that makes surfing the web easy.
Oh, the reason I couldn't find the scuba shop was because they moved!
